Joel Witworth brought 22.17 pounds to the scales to blow the competition away. Joel reported staying close to take off and fishing the Grand Glaize area of the lake. He focused on main lake points throwing a ¾ ounce War Eagle spinnerbait. He said the windier the point the better.

Joel culled through 2 limits of three pounders but did not get his kicker fish until the last half hour when he caught not one but two fish over five pounds! That is how you seal the deal! Joel took home $2,400.00 for his finish!

1st place elite
Heartland Trails Elite Series made their third stop of the 2011 season at Lake of the Ozarks May 1st with a new Nitro Z-7 powered by a Mercury 150 Optimax on the line. The morning started with a cool front passing through dropping temperatures down into the upper 40’s and bringing the wind out the north. Showers arrived later in the day making for a somewhat cool day for the first of May.

2nd place elite

Second place is rarely the best place to finish but in Steve Ortiz situation it turned out be alright. Steve had entered the previous two Heartland Elite tournaments which made him eligible to take home a new Nitro Z-7 boat and that is what he did!

Steve brought 19.42 to the scales. He reported catching his fish between the Glaize and the Dam. He had a limit by 10:30 and culled up later in the day with a nice 5.65 pound fish that took big bass honors as well!!

Steve focused on big rock points leading into spawning pockets and fished them with a Chompers jig. He said really working the jig slow was the key. Steve took home a new Nitro Z-7 valued at $23,000.00 as well as $525 for big bass!! Not a bad day at all!
Sponsors include Pro’s Choice Marine and Chompers.

3rd place elite
Third place went to Cowboy Foree. Cowboy followed his third place finish in the Team Series Saturday with another third place finish in the Elite. Not a bad weekend at all! Cowboy brought 19.15 pounds to the scales and said all his fish came on a Bulls Eye jig in the “Cowboy” color. His day got off to a slower start than Saturday but stuck with the plan and focused on the transition areas he fished Saturday and covered a lot of water. Cowboy won $1,400.00 for his finish.
Sponsors include Nameoki Marine, Ranger Boats, Bull's Eye Bait & Tackle, Bad Boy Mowers.
Heartland Trails would like to thank all the anglers who fished the first three tournaments and would like all to remember that the second season of the 2011 year begins at Stockton Lake June 4th and 5th. Come fish and...
