Heartland Trails was at Table Rock Lake this past weekend for the second stop of the 2011 season.  A recent warming trend in the weather had water temperatures increasing at a rather fast pace and with that the fish were on the move.  Temperatures at take-off were in the low 60’s with the high for the day topping out near the 90 degree mark.  The wind came up late in the morning and blew at a pretty good clip with gust over 30 mph.

Jerry McCutchen and Jamie Edge edged the field on this day with a total weight of 15.85 pounds.  Jerry and Jamie used Jerry’s signature Chompers white spinnerbait to cull through 9 keepers on their way to a win.  They reported an all day bite but said the presence of shad was key.  All their fish came from 6 feet of water or less and were around wood.  Sponsors include Mercury Marine, Triton Boats, Chompers, Pro’s Choice Marine, Hummingbird, St. Croix Rods, US REEL, Dave’s Custom Baits and Lowrance.  Jerry and Jamie’s catch won them $3,520.00 for first place!

Mark Tucker and Mike Koby started the morning with a quick limit of smallmouth and kentuckies in the first 30 minutes on a Fat Free shad colored crankbait in 8-10 feet of water off of secondary points.  They used a homemade spinnerbait and shaky head jig with a Zoom Trick worm to cull up to 15.11 and secure second place.

The shaky head fish came from docks in the 8-10 foot range.  The fish were making their move to the banks for the spring ritual and these two made the move with them.  Sponsors include Mercury Marine, Bass Cat, Motor Guide, Zoom, Trilene, ABU, Costa Del Mar, Dri Port Marine, Koby Co.  Mark and Mike took home $2,100.00 for 2nd place!

Third place went to the team of Justin Swast and Jay Beffa.  They put together a limit of fish that went 15.10 lbs.  The two used a combination of two Croc-o-Gator jigs on main lake and secondary points.  They started the morning with a 3/8 ounce Zapper jig and when the wind came up they switched to a ¾ ounce football jig.

They found their fish to be holding in about 12 feet of water and they said that softball size rock was the key.  They experienced a good morning and afternoon bite but had a little lull from 10-1:00. They are sponsored by Lew’s, Dunn’s, Croc-o-Gator and Jase Outdoors. They took home $1,200.00 for their efforts.

3rd team

Big Bass honors went to the team of Howard McCallister and Steve Plank.  Steve reported that the 7.35 pound pig came on a spinnerbait out of a cedar tree located on a bluff end.  The fish hit about noon after the wind came up.  The big fish paid them $400.00.  Sponsors include Mercury Marine, Pro Guide Batteries, Phoenix Boats, Seaguar Line, Chompers and McCallister Construction.
